Schools Marathon Challenge

The Schools Marathon Challenge is designed to help children become physically fit through the sport of running. This is a FREE program open to elementary-aged students in the Niagara Region and fits in with the Ontario Physical Education curriculum.

Part 1:  Students run 40.2 kilometres before race day, Sunday October 30th

  • Teachers incorporate running into Phys-Ed classes and extra-curricular activities
  • Download this sample MILEAGE RECORDING FORM or use your own
  • Teachers and students do NOT need to register with us to run the 40.2 kilometres at school

Part 2: Students that complete Part 1 above may run the last 2 kilometres on race day, Sunday October 30th

  • Assign 1 leader to organize your school running program (this is usually a Teacher).  This person acts as the liason with the Marathon.  This person can register here: TEACHER/CHAPERONE REGISTRATION (CLOSED FOR 2016) Once we receive your registration, we will email you a unique registration code for your school. Parents will need this code to register their children
  • Recruit 1 Chaperone for every 10 students that will join us on race day. Chaperones need to register here:  TEACHER/CHAPERONE REGISTRATION (CLOSED FOR 2016)
  • Parents/Legal Guardians need to register their students for the race day run here: STUDENT REGISTRATION (CLOSED FOR 2016)

What do you need to know about participating on race day, Sunday October 30th?

  • Each school can register a maximum of 50 students for the race day event
  • Race day has a cap of 550 students total.  Registration is on a first come, first served basis
  • Each parent receives an email copy of their child's registration that includes a signed waiver. We have asked them to print this out and bring it to school so that you can have a copy on file
  • All registration forms must be received by MONDAY SEPTEMBER 26TH
  • Only students receive a shirt, bib, finishing time and finisher's medal
  • Chaperones and Teachers receive tag credentials
  • More information on race kit pickup (shirts and bibs) will be provided to the Leader/Teacher in early October
  • Race day is Sunday October 30th with an 8:15 a.m. start
  • Parking is FREE at Rapidsview Parking Lot on race morning. Students should arrive by 7:30 a.m. at the latest
  • The race starts on Upper Rapids Road and finishes at the base of the Horseshoe Falls by Table Rock Restaurant
  • WEGO will provide rides to and from the Finish Line for students/parents
